Description of job and tasks involved

Mrs. Nomeda Gudelienė, Senior Research Center Manager, Deputy Vice-Rector for Research and International Relations, has been working at MRU since 2009. She coordinates and manages the development of University research, organizes the establishment of research programs and strategies, coordinates research projects and academic events, maintains relations with national and international research centres, business companies and social partners, monitors employment and career development of researchers. Mrs. Gudelienė was instrumental in developing and implementing an innovative research management system at Mykolas Romeris University that was designed with threefold aims: to make a shift from disciplinary to interdisciplinary, from nationally to internationally focused research as well develop and implement  an effective research monitoring and remuneration platform. Due to the system Mykolas Romeris University became the leader of social sciences and interdisciplinary research in Lithuania (according to the data of external research evaluation carried out by experts of the Research Council of Lithuania and METRIS country report 2012).  In addition, Mrs. Gudelienė contributed to the conference Ethics and Values in Higher Education in the Era of Globalisation: What Role for the Disciplines organized by the International Universities Association and Mykolas Romeris University in June 2010. The event was under patronage of the President of the Republic of Lithuania Dalia Grybauskaitė and aimed to discuss the concept of ethics and values in different research areas and cultures, to analyse how approaches of different research areas and cultures supplement and enrich each other, to contribute to the highest values based system of higher education and examine how global higher education community can build a universal code of ethics.  Over 300 leaders and researchers of the most influential universities in the world took part at event. Experience in European research projects

Mrs. Gudelienė was the coordinator of the project funded by 7th Framework Programme and organising an international Lithuanian Presidency’s of the Council of the European Union conference Horizons of Social Sciences and Humanities that was held at MRU in September 2013. The event was dedicated to the discussion of the relationships of social sciences and humanities (SSH) with other fields of science and research policy and in particular with the upcoming EU Research and Innovation Funding Programme Horizon 2020. The conference was organized under patronage of the President of the Republic of Lithuania Dalia Grybauskaitė and in partnership with the European Commission, the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Lithuania, the Research Council of Lithuania. The event was attended by Máire Geoghegan-Quinn, Commissioner for Research, Innovation and Science, Robert-Jan Smits, Director-General of DG Research and Innovation, prof. dr. Helga Nowotny, President of the European Research Council as well as over 400 leading European researchers, representatives of universities, research policy institutions, research funding agencies, associations, business companies, non-governmental organizations and media. Mykolas Romeris University (MRU) is a leading university of social sciences research in Lithuania. It engages in fundamental and applied research, takes part in national, regional and international research programmes and projects, practically applies research results and disseminates them to the public. MRU interdisciplinary research experience carried out under the priority research area for 2010-2014: Societal Innovations for Global Growth and major research programmes: Justice, Security and Human Rights; Social Technologies; National Sustainable Growth in the Context of Globalisation; Improving the Quality of Life and Advancing Employment Opportunities; Continuity and Change of Values in Global Society will be particularly valuable to the project.

Currently MRU enrols approximately 16,000 students, employs over 800 researchers and the total staff number is over 1000. Over 150 doctoral students study in the fields of law, management and administration, psychology, philology, economics, education. Structurally MRU consists of 5 faculties, 13 institutes and 10 departments.  The university offers more than 70 different study programmes, over 80% of them have international accreditation. Studies and research are carried out in interdisciplinary as well as the following disciplinary fields: law, public administration, economics, finance management, psychology, social work, social policy, sociology, education, etc. MRU has a full membership of the following international higher education organizations: International Association of Universities (IAU), European University Association (EUA), European Association for International Education (EAIE), etc. MRU cooperates closely with over 200 international institutions including universities, public and private institutions. The University has experience in managing international research projects, including the ones carried out under European Commission Framework Programmes, COST Actions, NordPLus, Asia-Link programme, etc.
