The Fundació Clínic per a la Recerca Biomèdica (FCRB) was created mainly to manage and promote the research activities of Hospital Clínic de Barcelona (HCB) and Consorci Institut D'Investigacions Biomediques August Pi i Sunyer (IDIBAPS).

The IDIBAPS is a public research centre dedicated to translational research in the field of biomedicine. Its mission is to integrate state of the art basic research and quality clinical research. Founded in 1996, IDIBAPS is formed by the Government of Catalonia, the University of Barcelona's Faculty of Medicine (UB), the Hospital Clínic de Barcelona (HCB) and the Institut d'Investigacions Biomèdiques de Barcelona of the Spanish Council for Scientific Research (IIBB-CSIC). The institution is very active in scientific research. The facts and figures of IDIBAPS guarantee its excellence. It has a high scientific productivity with more than 1,000 indexed original articles per year. Of these publications, 69% are in the first quartile of impact in their field during 2016. The progression of the yearly Impact Factor figures show a growing trend, achieving a mean of 5.8 Impact Factor points in 2016. Moreover, IDIBAPS ranks first in scientific productivity and quality among the Certified Health Research Institutes of Spain. Moreover, IDIBAPS has a strong track record working in European projects and has a dedicated European Projects Office (OPE). The OPE managed 34 projects in FP5 (1 as coordinators), 55 projects in FP6 (11 as coordinators), 130 projects in FP7 (29 as coordinators) and is currently managing 41 projects in H2020 (4 as coordinators).

The HCB is a university tertiary hospital located in Barcelona. It is a public institution with a long reputation of excellence in care provision, training and research at national and international level. HCPB is a community hospital that employs around 4000 workers (23% doctors, 55% nurses and 22% clerical and other supportive staff). As a Tertiary Hi-tech Hospital, the goals are around consolidating an organisation that stimulates knowledge and its translation to mainstream services, together with an adequate innovation in technology that ensures the development of the most advanced work practices. The priority is set in innovation on new models of organising care provision. HCPB has pursued the creation of an integrated care model of service integration aiming at maximising cooperation among professionals, levels of care and institutions

As explained above FCRB administers the research being carried out in FCRB, IDIBAPS and HCB. Therefore within FCRB we can find all management units (pre-award European projects office, Projects follow-up office, finance, accounting, Human Resources etc) that support the research community.
