Description of job and tasks involved
I work in the post award team of the Research Services which focuses on the implementation phase of externally funded projects, mainly in financial issues. One of my expertise area is EU funding, especially European Commission’s framework programmes. My 4 years of experience in research administration, both in research and financial aspects of it, is a good basis to be able to receive new information but also to share my knowledge with colleagues across Europe. I am constantly keen on developing university’s processes as well as myself professionally, and I’d like to take part in developing similar issues on a transnational level.

The University of Turku, established in 1920, has 7 faculties and 11 independent units. There are over 20,000 students and 3,300 staff members. The Research Services of the University of Turku is a centralized expert unit offering support services both for the University’s researchers and project administrative personnel as well as for the decision makers. The mission of the unit is to increase the volumes of external research funding and to ensure smooth project management and thus support the research activities of the University. The research funding expertise of the unit covers national, EU and other international funding. Research Services is divided into three segments according to the life span of externally funded projects: pre award, negotiation (legal) and post award phases. The personnel includes 14 professionals: research funding specialists, legal counsels and project finance specialists.
